Census Records

The easiest, fastest and most rewarding method of searching census records is through an internet source. Some of the most widely used are::

• FamilySearch - free
• Ancestry - available by paid subscription and sometimes available through your local library
• HeritageQuest - available by paid subscription and sometimes available through your local library
• US National Archives (NARA) - free

Microfilms can still be used to search census records. Below are film number series at the National Archives:

1800 and before - Look for "People Lists"

• While these are not census records, other lists containing names of people can be used as "alternative census" substitutes. Look for Tax Schedules and Land Company record books.

1830 Federal Census

• Heads of Households - Partial Index

1840 Federal Census

• 1840 Pensioners for Revolutionary or Military Service

1880 Federal Census

• Spring Creek Township - submitted by Betty Matteson Rhodes

1890 Special Schedules of Union Veterans and Widows of Union Veterans of the Civil War

• Census information contained on NARA Microfilm #M123-89 for Warren County; this film also includes Butler, Crawford, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Erie Counties.

1920 Federal Census

1930 Federal Census
