Located on the east side of Sheffield, the high school opened in 1912.

According to the Kane Republican newspaper (page 5), dated Friday, May 3, 1912: "The Sheffield (Pa.,) Observer of last week contained a fine view of the magnificent Horton Memorial High School building, which was opened for the inspection of the public yesterday. This building, which is one of the finest in Northern Pennsylvania, was built and furnished complete by Mrs. George Horton and sons and presented to Sheffield as a memorial to Mr. Horton. Sheffield has every reason for being proud of this imposing building than which there is none finer any where in this section of the State."

On Saturday, August 28, 1948, an "elaborate athletic field and park" was dedicated as a tribute to Sheffield's veterans. A parade, speakers, dedication of a memorial plaque, and an evening concert marked the festivities.

Gleaned from the Warren Times Mirror, August 30th edition.
